Procedure for Licensing a Public Swimming Pool
New Pool:
- Obtain a construction permit from the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), Division of Community Services. Click here for more information.
- Obtain necessary local zoning approval and building, electrical, plumbing and other applicable local permits.
- Once construction is complete, a joint inspection must be conducted by our office and DHMH, Division of Community Services, to ensure that the pool was constructed according to the approved plans. Additionally, approval must be received for any building, electrical, plumbing, or other work that required a local permit.
- Complete an application for a permit from the Harford County Health Department Public Swimming Pool program and pay $200.00 for an annual operating permit.
Existing Pool:
- Complete an application for a permit from the Harford County Health Department Public Swimming Pool program and pay $200.00 for an annual operating permit. Click here for application form.
- Schedule a pre-opening inspection with the Harford County Health Department Public Swimming Pool program.
- Pool must meet pre-opening inspection criteria before a license will be issued.
