What is PEP?
If you think you’ve recently been exposed to HIV, PEP may be right for you. PEP is a 28-day course of medication you take after exposure to HIV which can prevent contracting the virus.
PEP is for people who are HIV-negative.
When do I take PEP?
You should start PEP within 72 hours after you believe you were exposed to HIV. The sooner, the better. Think of PEP as the “Plan B” for HIV.
How do I get PEP?
If you need PEP, call us at (410) 612-1779 Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. We provide referrals to PEP providers.
We most often refer to Chase Brexton’s Mount Vernon location or to University of Maryland Medical Center’s Emergency Department.
On evenings and weekends, the University of Maryland Medical Center Emergency Department is the closest provider with guaranteed PEP availability. Chase Brexton may have limited Saturday hours but you should first call (410) 837-2050 to confirm. Unfortunately, there are no closer locations for Harford County residents.
