Testing, PrEP, and Prevention

HIV Testing at Our Clinic

Free, confidential and/or anonymous HIV testing is available in Edgewood (410-612-1779) and Bel Air (410-638-3060). It is important for people to know their risks and learn how to reduce chances for HIV exposure. A fingerstick test provides results in 20 minutes. A standard blood test is also available with results available in about 1 week.

HIV Testing at Home

We also offer free OraQuick in-home HIV tests via an online voucher redemption system. You must reside in Harford County, Maryland, in order to receive an in-home test.

If you want to receive your test in the mail, submit a request for an online voucher at surveymonkey.com/r/MyHomeTest.

Voucher Redemption is quick and easy!

Once you receive your voucher code…

  • Visit shop.oraquick.com,
  • Add 1 test to your shopping cart, and
  • Enter your voucher code and zip code, click apply coupon, and continue to complete the checkout process.

The test will arrive at the address you provided within 2-3 business days.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV Prevention)

If you’re at risk for or worried about HIV, PrEP may be right for you. PrEP is a once-daily pill you can take that protects you from HIV. PrEP is for people who don’t have HIV and want to remain HIV-negative.

We offer PrEP via our Health Department PrEP Clinic in Edgewood (410-612-1779).

PEP (HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)

If you think you’ve recently been exposed to HIV, PEP may be right for you. PEP is a 28-day course of medication you take after exposure to HIV which can prevent contracting the virus.

PEP is for people who are HIV-negative and should be started within 72 hours after exposure to HIV. We do not provide PEP but are available for questions and referrals.

Other prevention methods

Abstinence, mutual monogamy, non-insertive sex (mutual masturbation, toys, etc.), use of barrier methods like condoms, and serosorting (choosing sexual partners who have the same HIV status as you) are also effective for preventing HIV.

We provide sexual health education (request it here). We also supply free condoms (male and female), dental dams, and lube.

Note that condoms are the HIV prevention method that also prevents pregnancy. If you are interested in preventing pregnancy, our Family Planning program can help.
