Medical Assistance Transportation provides transportation to medical appointments.

*Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather and the Health Department is closed, and you have scheduled pick-up, please contact AAA at 301-952-1193 and select Option 2.*

This service is available to Harford County residents who have:

  • active, non-restrictive Medical Assistance (Medicaid) coverage
  • no other means of transportation

Program Rules and Regulations:

  • Clients must be going to a Medicaid covered medical appointment.
  • Clients must live in Harford County.
  • Client must have no other means of transportation available, including use of public transportation.
  • Clients must ensure required documents (Maryland Statewide Medical Assistance Transportation Certification Form/ Maryland Statewide Medical Assistance Provider Certification Form for Out of Area Transportation) are completed and returned to the Program.
  • Clients must make arrangements no later than 3:30 pm two business days prior to their appointment.
  • Clients must have their own active medical assistance card and be prepared to show photo identification upon request.
  • Clients are not permitted to eat, drink or smoke in any vehicle being used for Medical Assistance purposes.
  • Clients must contact the program to cancel if they no longer need a ride. If missing scheduled rides without canceling in advance becomes a habit, you may be subject to program restrictions.
  • Clients are not permitted to bring additional passengers during transport. Exceptions are made only for attendants accompanying minors or individuals requiring medical assistance during transport. Attendants must be pre-approved by the program in advance. Siblings and children who do not have a scheduled medical appointment are not permitted.
  • Children must have an age/weight appropriate child safety car seat or booster seat.

MA Transportation FAQ’s

Call 410-638-1671 and a staff member will take your call and arrange transportation. Our staff members are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. **Please call at least 48 hours (2 business days) before the appointment time. Example: If you have a Monday appointment, schedule your ride on the Thursday before. If you have an appointment the day after a State/County holiday, schedule your ride two (2) business days before the holiday.
A request for Urgent Transportation must come from your Physician or Medical Caregiver. The number to arrange Urgent transportation is 410-638-1671.
To cancel your ride please call: All American Ambulance and Transport at 301-952-1193 or Harford County Health Depatment Medical Assistance Transportation at 410-638-1671 Important! Please cancel your scheduled ride as soon as you know you no longer need it. When you cancel early, someone else in need may be able to receive a ride.
If you find that you no longer need your scheduled ride, please call 410-638-1671 as soon as possible. If you forget to cancel, you may be required to call 410-638-1671 to confirm one hour before your transportation is scheduled to arrive.

Adults may have an attendant for assistance, but it must first be approved on a Statewide Medical Assistance Provider Certification Form. Click here to download a form. You may also call our office at 410-638-16471 to request a form be mailed to you. Children ages 17 and younger with appointments must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children without appointments may not come along. We encourage parents to set up routine appointments for all their children at the same time for the same trip.
