Emergency Contraception (EC), also known as Morning After Pill or Plan B, is contraception used after sexual intercourse but before a women becomes pregnant. Consider using Emergency Contraception if you did not use a contraceptive during sex or if you think your contraceptive did not work properly. Emergency Contraceptive pills contain the same medication as regular birth control pills and help prevent pregnancy:

  • If taken within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex
  • If the condom breaks
  • If no birth control was used
  • If birth control pills were missed or lost
  • If diaphrams or cervical caps become dislodged
  • If partner uses withdrawal method

The sooner you take Emergency Contraception, the more effective it is. Emergency Contraception pills are not effective after pregnancy has occurred. For regular long-term use, other contraceptive methods are more effective. Emergency Contraception will not protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Emergency Contraception is available on a walk-in basis.
