Reportable Diseases

Federal and State law requires public health authorities to investigate cases of all reportable diseases.

Our nurses serve as contact tracers for these and other reportable diseases, focused on preventing or limiting the spread of these communicable diseases. This is achieved through disease surveillance, case investigation, contact follow-up and implementation of control measures when necessary.

Providers, hospitals, and labs are mandated to report all such cases to the Health Department.

We rely on a partnership with healthcare entities and private citizens to conduct this work.

Foodborne illnesses

HIV

Lyme

Rabies

Sexually Transmitted Infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, etc.)

Tuberculosis

Viral Hepatitis (including Hepatitis C)

This is not an exhaustive list of reportable diseases. For the full list of national notifiable conditions, visit the CDC’s NNDSS page. Providers with reporting questions should contact us at (410) 612-1779.
