Complaints/Foodborne Illness

The Health Department investigates complaints of improper food handling practices and suspected foodborne illness associated with a food service facility.
Complaints may be emailed to hchd.inbox@maryland.gov or called in to our office at 410-877-2300 during normal hours of operation. The Health Department staff will record the information and forward the complaint onto an environmental health specialist. An environmental health specialist in the Inspections Division may need to speak directly with the complainant in order to
obtain all pertinent information for an investigation. When complaints are received, every measure is taken to remedy the situation at the food service facility as quickly as possible. In most cases, the environmental health specialist will inspect the facility and report the findings to the complainant directly.

For information on Foodborne Illnesses see Consumer Food Safety Information.
