The Harford County Health Department offers free training on how to recognize, prevent, and respond to an opioid overdose by using intranasal naloxone (Narcan®), a prescription medication that is used to reverse an overdose. Narcan® is available from the Health Department via contactless delivery. For more information email jack.latchford@maryland.gov.
Training participants will learn:
- How to identify opioids
- How to recognize, respond to, and prevent an opioid overdose
- How to administer intranasal naloxone to reverse an overdose
What is naloxone?
Naloxone (Narcan®) is a safe medication that can save someone’s life by reversing the effects of an opioid overdose. It only works on opioids, such as heroin, prescription painkillers, and fentanyl, but it is safe to use even if opioids are not present. If you are worried you or someone you know may be at risk of an opioid overdose, naloxone is available to you.
What if I use my naloxone?
Please complete the Naloxone Use Report form and email to hchd.harmreduction@maryland.gov. Be sure to ask for more naloxone.
What if my naloxone expires?
Email hchd.harmreduction@maryland.gov to request more. We will accept your expired naloxone and take care of proper disposal.
