-The CDC has updated their list of certain medical conditions that put people at higher risk for developing severe illness from COVID-19. These conditions include:
- Chronic kidney disease
- COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
- Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 or higher)
- Serious heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
- Sickle cell disease
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
While evidence has suggested these conditions pose a greater risk, there is still limited data on COVID-19 and there may be other conditions that cause risk as well. You can read the updated list HERE, along with ways to reduce your risk of developing complications from COVID-19.
