LGBTQ History

HIV Blog / June 10, 2019

Political activist Marcus Garvey once said, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.”

The community’s history is often forgotten because LGBTQ culture isn’t passed from parent to child in the way of many other cultures. This Pride Month, we’d like to help change that.

LGBTQ people have endured a lot. The rights and freedoms the community enjoys today are a result of the hard work and perseverance of those that came before.

To remember the community’s history…

To acknowledge those that came before…

To recognize how far we’ve come…

To celebrate the vibrance of LGBTQ people…

Let’s take a look at events in LGBTQ history that are particularly relevant to Marylanders.
